NATSUKASHI

A Japanese word used when something evokes a fond memory from your past, the remembrance of small things that bring sudden joy.

Between in 2019 I decide to move to Japan by myself.
I often find myself daydreaming about the past and all the moments I lived there.

In today’s digital world, we have more ways than ever to capture memories through photos and videos. Yet, even with all the content saved on my phone, I’ve realised how quickly memories fade. It’s not just the places I visited or what I did, but how I felt in those exact moments. As these memories start to feel more like dreams, becoming difficult to distinguish between what was real and what I now imagine.

Natsukashi is the feeling of daydreaming and reflecting on these memories. It captures the essence of experiences that words alone cannot describe. Being in Japan and then transitioning back to life in Australia highlighted the power of memory to transport us to different times and places, even when those memories feel like dream.

All videos shot on my iphone.
